The Summer Anime Season 2011 officially kicks off this week, an boy do they cover the spectrum. Among the debuting series are an American superhero, a Literary classic, a Yuri-lolicon harem, a Family Drama, Horror and a Post-apocolyptic action/sci-fi jaunt. And that's just in the first week.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica:
A brilliant deconstructionist approach to the "magical girl" [mahao sojou] genere. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so it's hard to review properly. The first episode starts out bright and bubbly. But like an oncoming storm, each succeeding episode becomes darker and darker, as the consequences of becoming a Puella Magi become clear. Filled with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. I cannot recommend this show enough. A must see! Without doubt.
